About the Course

Play therapists often state that involving parents is one of the most challenging aspects of their work (Ray, 2011). Additionally, teachers are among the most influential and important people in a child’s social environment (Kottman, 2016) and working within a school environment allows ample opportunities to work alongside educators. However, in a school setting, it may be harder to establish clear communication about progress and therapeutic goals. In this workshop, the presenters will discuss unique challenges when working as a school based counselor. The presenter will discuss best practices for working with parents and stakeholders within a school setting and will cover importance steps and considerations for effective intakes within a school setting to help broach culture and set expectations.
